Marijuana – For Or Against?

Marijuana – For Or Against?

This little plant is the center of some very heated discussions both in politics, religion and in that of medicine. Is marijuana the miracle drug proclaimed in certain circles or an open path to drug addiction?

If the medical benefits of marijuana would be true, then the plant would become one of the most versatile treatments known. Until now, researchers have found that it can treat Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, gastrointestinal disease, hepatitis C, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and even Tourette syndrome. New findings appear virtually every day. It seems that it can even be used to treat brain tumors. Besides, marijuana is said to be a preventive treatment for a lot of other problems such as blindness, headaches and depression.

A dose of marijuana produces a group of psychotic effects. The condition can be compared to the effects of alcohol: memories fade as a function, motor functions not responding, and consciousness seems a very, very distant thing. However, the effects of marijuana depend largely on the mood of the individual.

The strongest argument in legalizing marijuana is that it is a recreational drug and can be used legally as the rest of the drugs in this category: alcohol and tobacco.
